About the studies

PhD Programme in Biology

Studies are carried out in English, in full-time, four-year system. The programme of studies covers courses representing various areas of biological sciences, includes training in modern methodology and mastering skills useful in professional academic and non-academic career. Choice of facultative classes and possibility of gaining credits for courses offered outside of the University ensures flexibility and helps to adjust participation in classes to the individual research plan of the student.

PhD students are recruited to the specific research topics offered by potential advisors. Each year, PhD students and their advisors/promotors write research plan for a given year. Progress of scientific research of the student might be additionally overviewed by advisory team, which can be (optionally) appointed by the advisor/promotor.

Doctoral dissertations are prepared under the supervision of scientific staff of the Faculty of Biology and Earth Sciences (members of the Institute of Botany, Institute of Environmental Sciences or Institute of Zoology and Biomedical Research). Studies lead to the scientific Doctoral title in the discipline of biology or discipline of ecology.
